Lilies represent our ability to grow through challenges. They grow from the darkness towards the light. As we grow through our challenges, we are reminded to always reach for the light.
The lotus and the lily grow from the mud. I developed a deep affinity to these flowers as I trained as a yoga teacher in 2018. One of my yoga trainers Shivani, suggested I paint this image as it has resting space for the eye. She lived in Japan and spoke of this concept of negative space that they call Ma.

In 'Lilly Ma,' the pink lily gently floats atop the calm turquoise water, its petals a symbol of resilience and grace. Surrounded by the peaceful green pads, this painting invites us to pause and reflect—much like the Japanese concept of Ma, the sacred space between moments, where stillness and presence thrive. As the lily reaches towards the light, it reminds us that even in the stillness, we are growing, finding our way out of the murk and into the clarity of the light. Popi Iatrou beautifully captures this tranquil moment of inner peace, growth, and illumination.
